Treating Bird Problems

There are various treatment options available to control problem birds, depending on your location, requirements, budget, and restrictions.

Proofing and eradication

Any bird proofing system must be humane and English laws govern the types of proofing and eradication methods that are appropriate; these restrictions change depending on circumstance. JPS can advise on the best approach to your bird problem and develop the most effective measure or combination of measures.

Bird Nets

Bird Nets:Netting is one of the most popular and cost-effective methods for proofing buildings, though it can be one of the more visually obvious measures. Nets are installed to physically seal off problem areas to make it impossible for birds to gain access.

Bird Spikes

Bird Spikes:Upward-pointing spikes are the simplest way of deterring birds from alighting on specific areas like parapets, beams, pipes, gutters and roof ridges. Commonly used on window ledges and on top of signage, bird spikes are effective at preventing birds being able to land.

Electric Systems

Electric Systems:Electric systems are some of the most flexible bird proofing measures, and are especially useful in protecting awkward-shaped signs, pipework, parapets, edges and ledges from birds looking to nest.

Post and Wire

Post and Wire:Posts with wires make it difficult for birds to land. These systems are extremely adaptable, offering many different fixing options depending on the shape of the building. Post and wire systems aren’t suitable for high-pressure nesting and roosting areas, and are less discreet than electric systems.

Bird Optical Illusion Gel

Bird Optical Illusion Gel: Virtually invisible from the ground, bird-free gel is a discreet way to deter birds and discourage them from landing on treated areas. The gel appears to birds as though it is on fire, due to the way their eyes process ultraviolet light, making them unwilling to land.

Trapping: Trapping nuisance birds can be an effective way to remove them humanely from your property. Using robust traps is vital to ensure they remain secure when full. The birds can then be relocated to non-problem areas.

Scare systems

Scare systems:Various approaches can be used to scare birds away from buildings to prevent nesting and roosting, including:

  • Visual deterrents
  • Laser Dispersal
  • Ultrasonic systems
  • Bio-Acoustic systems
Shooting (culling)

Shooting (culling):In some circumstances, a controlled cull of problem birds is the most effective and humane solution. There are various strict laws around the culling of birds in the UK, so this type of approach should only ever be carried out by a professional.

Falconry:Introducing a predator bird, such as a Harris Hawk, is an environmentally-friendly approach to deterring pest birds, a technique used at Wimbledon and Westminster Abbey. The predator bird makes the area feel unsafe to pest birds, which will find somewhere else to roost.

Solar Panel Exclusion

Solar Panel Exclusion: Specialist barriers can prevent birds from nesting underneath solar panels. The barriers are designed to maintain airflow, so as not to disrupt the cooling processes of the panels, and include areas for access.

Just want to thank you JPS for the prompt service and professional attitude you showed when recently you undertook the task of thoroughly cleaning and controlling the infestation of cockroaches at my mother's property.
You made what seemed like an impossible task seem easy.

Tony, Plaistow

Just wanted to say a big 'Thank You' for the great job you did for us in removing the wasp nest from our garden which was causing us a lot of stress. Everything is perfect now. No wasps to be seen. Would highly recommend you.

Lisa and Tony, Romford, Essex

We are a mansion block based in Central London for some time had an ongoing issue with roosting pigeons. We asked JPS for their advice and help. Various options were discussed with the merits for all explained and we eventually opted for bird netting with various gates to give us access on our fire escapes. It has worked a treat and solved our problems 100%. We found their team to be professional and courteous and we would highly recommend them.

Andrea Slatter (Chief Executive) of Bickenhall Mansions
